Why I’m doing this

June 23, 2026

A few years ago I got chatting to friends who attended my high school’s 10 year reunion. They observed that the people there were largely the same as they were 10 years ago, and that how you start is how you finish. I believe that is complete bullshit, and I still do – but it got me thinking about why so many of us believe it anyway.

This idea that we are set in stone, ceiling reached by age 25 or earlier is not one I buy into. And even those who’d argue we change but to a lesser extent after that point I would also strongly disagree with. It’s all nonsensical. Usually the people who believe change is limited are describing their own fear of change, not yours.

Most of what I write ends up circling back to this in one way or another. Sometimes it’s digging into a personal anecdote and sometimes it’s just me pushing back on a stranger’s opinion I just could not let go of. I’ll back it up with actual research where I can. I’m not interested in vibes only based self-help – but I’d rather build an argument you can push back on, rather than hand you a to do list.

I’ll be posting roughly fortnightly. If any of this lands, stick around – and if you think I’m wrong about something, even better say so in the comments.

Enjoy.
